Do you have onboard sound or do you have a sound card? I'm assuming you have onboard sound or else you would have put the disc that came with your sound card in.
Assuming I am right in my assumptions (lol I'm doing a lot of assuming aren't I) do you have Realtek onboard sound? Sometimes, for reasons I don't know, when you install Vista or re-install it, you have to go into programs and features to get it working. You may even have to download the newest drivers.
Help me out a little. Let me know the answers to those questions and I can help direct you to what you need to do based on your answers. Thanks.

Yes, you will have to reinstall the proper sound drivers.
What is the manufacturer and exact model of your computer, JamesP?

LOL KBN if you got this, I'm going to bed. Remember though that with realtek sound, sometimes one needs to go to the Mobo manufacturer rather than the realtek site to get the correct version.

Well, I was hoping I would be able to find the sound drivers from the PC manufacturer's website....but that depends on the manufacturer, which I do not know yet.
