BleepingComputer.com: macbook to my standard TV

I have a question if someone can help me. I am trying to connect my macbook to my TV. The TV is just a standard tube television which is a few years old and only has connections for s-video, and the standard yellow jack for the image display.

I am trying to watch Hulu using the TV as my screen. I bought a mini DVI converter which has two jacks: one is an s-video and the other the standard yellow jack. I have tried hooking up my macbook to the TV with with both connections and neither give me a picture on the TV screen.

I can hear sound via a cable connected to the Macbooks headphone jack connected to the TV's RCA sound input, however the picture is jumpy and flickering. In the old days there was a nob on the back of the TV that you could adjust to get a clear picture. Not like that anymore.

Its like something is wrong with my resolution or something on my computer. I can tell that the TV is trying to mirror what is on my macbook, but it looks really fuzzy and it looks like the image is tiled. It is also really dark.

I tried a few different resolution combinations and nothing seems to come in clear enough to be recognizable. I also tried this on another I have a question if someone can help me. did you try 640x480 resolution with 60hz refresh rate?

Yes I did. I tried 640x480 basic and in stretched mode, neiether of which worked. I also tried to change the TV from 4:3 to 9:1 and that still did not work.

what are the specs on the mini dvi converter?
maybe the conversion method it is using is just to high for the input of the tv.

if you set at 640x480 at 4:3 and 60hz most old tv's can see that.
i have even done it on old turn knob tv's using rca to coax modular adapters.

Here is more info:

TV is a Sharp Model: 27F641 X Flex
DVI is from Dynex and is Model: DX-AP100

I set the TV to 4:3 and the Macbook to 640x480 and 60hz and still no joy.
I set the TV to 9:1 and the Macbook to 1280x800 and 60hz and again, no joy.

Any thoughts?

ok i have the same problem...

what i bought:

*Mini DVI to VGA display adapter
*VGA to TV S-Video 3 RCA AV Adapter Cable for Computer
*S-Video connector (male)

what i did:
* connected the mini dvi/vga to vga/tv
* plugged in yellow, red, white AND s-video into the tv (video in slot)
* when to the display options did the whole detect display ( nothing found)
* took out the s-video leaving the yellow, white and red
* tried the detection again (still nothing)
* took out the yellow video plug leaving s-video red and white audio
* tried the detection again ( still nothing)

* i also tried every resolution option and still nothing !!!

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG!!! I have a standard tube tv as well ( APEX AT2408 production date March 2003 -yikes!! lol)

Anyway HEELLLPP!!!!! PLLEEEEEEEEEEASE!!!
