Hi, whenever I boot up, this annoying message (below) appears on my desktop and i have to click 'OK' to get rid of it, then I can use the computer normally without any apparent problem.
Is it telling me there's something I urgently need to rectify, and is there anything I can do to stop it appearing?

Nvcpl is probably "nVidia control panel"...yes, it seems to be inconsequential.

http://process.networktechs.com/NvCpl.dll.php

I have an nVidia chipset on this system and that file is at C:\Windows\System32. I disabled it from running at startup, using Autoruns, so it causes me no trouble.

Just uninstall/reinstall your video drivers and that should take care of it...it's probably damaged. Or just disable it from running at boot.

Thanks, that seems the simplest solution, how do I do that? Did I mention I'm almost totally PC-illiterate? (sniffle)

Download Autoruns for Windows: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb963902.aspx
No installation required.
Simply unzip Autoruns.zip file, and double click on autoruns.exe file to run the program.
Go File>Save, and save it as AutoRuns.txt file to know location.
You must select Text from drop-down menu as a file type:

Or if you already have Spybot on your system you can just set it advanced view, then click on tools, then click on startup and uncheck it there. That would be the easiest way.

I find Autoruns to be very confusing and inaccurate in many ways, the services section is totally inaccurate. The startup section of it, Winlogon and Logon, seem accurate but finding them can take a minute as there are way too many tabs.

To get to what you want to do in this case, just find and click on the Winlogon tab and if it is not there, then find and click on Logon. It should be in one of those two places
