BleepingComputer.com: DVD/CD writing problems

Hi. I'm running two computers with Windows XP, a Fujitsu Siemens laptop and a Philips PC. Both have the same problem! I'm running Picasa to sort my photos. Making a backup, the programme offers me the choice of using 9 CDs or 3 DVDs. No contest. Except that neither computer will write to a DVD although I can write to CDs. Both computers will read from CDs or DVDs. Windows also fails to write to DVDs. I have another progamme, DivX which will happily burn movies to DVDs but isn't designed to copy photo files. (Unless someone can tell me how!)

Any suggestions as to what's going on? Both computers are rather long in the tooth and would write to DVDs when I first had them.

Thanks, Broni. I've downloaded that programme and it looks good. I'll have a play with it over the next few days and see how it goes.
