explorer.exe keeps crashing

Hi everybody!

My computer works perfectly fine but most of the time I try to turn off the computer, (Start menu > Turn Off Computer), it would give me an error that explorer.exe had crashed instead of the window to ask if you wanted to standby, turn off or restart.
I would then click "Send error report' or 'Don't send' and I would have to click turn off again (Start menu > Turn Off Computer > Shut Down).

It says in the details:
The following files would be included in the error report:
C:\DOCUME~1\TONYLA~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\4230_appcompat.txt

Unfortunately, the file disappeared (temp) and I was unable to see what was inside.
Once I get my hands on it, I'll post it here.

Let's try...

BlueScreenView - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html.

Double-click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.

When scanning is done, Edit/Select All...then File/Save Selected Items. Save the report as BSOD.txt.

Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

You might also read How To Disable Automatic Restarts When Windows Crashes - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic74644.html. This may not apply to your particular situation right now, but it's useful knowledge for making it easier to troubleshoot some system problems.

Nothing popped up for the BlueScreenView.

By the way, I'm not sure but I'll add this detail in:
Last time explorer crashed, I opened task manager and 'Sysfader' was not responding.
I did a bit of research and disabled it the fading effects.

Now, when explorer.exe crashes, 'Sysfader' doesn't pop up in task manager so I think I resolved that issue :thumbsup:
But it still crashes, so I think something else is causing it.

Focus only on errors listed today...no information items or warnings. You can see the detail for any line item by double-clicking on said line item in Event Viewer.

Hmm...I don't see anything useful/enlightening with those errors.

I would make sure that XP is current with critical updates...and then run the sfc /scannow command or do a repair install.

It's difficult to troubleshoot when there really is no evidence of anything out of the ordinary.

Wonder why it suddenly stopped :thumbsup:

Well...from what I see, XP SP3_gdr may be an illegal version of XP, available freely on the the torrent path.

That happens to be the version cited in your displayed message content.

That could explain your problems, if using an install acquired by torrent or bought from someone who created a CD from such.

Problem solved.
Seems that explorer.exe was corrupted so I had to do sfc /scannow as suggested.
