Do you have Service Pack 1 installed?

I know it seems like a dumb question, but I have to start out with the obvious first.

To learn if SP1 is already installed:
Click Start, right-click Computer, and then click Properties.

If Service Pack 1 is listed in the Windows edition section, SP1 is already installed on your computer.

Yes SP1 is installed.

Dont worry about asking me any "dumb" questions as I've probably missed something obvious!! :huh:

Have you tried disabling your anti-virus and firewall before trying to install SP2?

You could also try it in Safe Mode.

Windows Vista SP2 Downloads

Try those.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

Hi Guys,

I've tried all your suggestions from the last two posts without any success.
Each time I still get the message Installation unsuccessful. Element not found (0x80070490)

I dont have the disk to reinstall and I cant get hold of the guy who put Vista on my computer.

Thanks for all your suggestions but I guess I'll just have to make do without SP2.
