I bought an Acer Aspire 4810TZ-4011 two months ago, upgraded it to Windows 7 Ultimate about a month and a half ago, and noticed this new problem about 2 weeks ago. I did not ever notice this before, even after the Win7 upgrade.
I will set my display to a certain brightness setting, let's say 75%, and it will stay at 75% for a few minutes before the screen will get noticeably but gradually darker, then gradually lighter, then darker, then lighter, and so on. It does not seem to be timed (two minutes light and two minutes dark, for example), and it seems to happen no matter what I'm doing on the computer. There is an auto-dim function that is supposed to set the screen at 30% if it hasn't been used for 2 minutes, but this will happen while I'm using it. Even more frustrating, when I go to look at the power options, it will say that the screen is still at 75%, even when it is obviously not.
I have re-set the power options to the default settings time and time again, it doesn't seem to help. I have also googled for answers, but haven't found anyone with a similar problem (which is troubling). Any help?

Before someone comes and tells you your monitor is dead or dying....
Try updating/reinstalling your video drivers, uninstalling the present ones before you do.
