AVG 9.0 Cannot install AVG 9.0

Hi,
I a newbie....
I installed a free version of AVG (8.5) some time ago. I recently (in the last day or so) tried to install a paid version (9.0).
Version 9.0 will not install, the installation GUI reports a corrupt file via pop-up. This was tried by directly running the download and by saving and then running the installation download. Also, I cannot uninstall version 8.5.
ComboFix does not appear to run properly because AVG is there... What to do?
How do I disable and remove AVG 8.5?
Thanks in advance!
KE

Then, after using the tool, Louis directed you to, it's better, if you stay away from AVG - it keeps having issues again and again.
Also, do NOT use Combofix unsupervised.

Exactly why I logged in today! I have been using AVG free for YEARS and can recall having big problems on a few updates as well as a scanner that slows my PC right down. I just upgraded to the free version 9.0 and could no longer access the internet or printer. Some sort of port conflict...?
anyway which free anti virus would you suggest?NVM I have been browsing the forum for a few and have some leads now.

I've used AVG free for years on at least a half dozen computers in my house and I've NEVER encountered any problems with it. I suppose if I got to the point where I became dissatisfied with AVG, I would give MS Security Essentials a try. I've heard good things about it but haven't personally used it.
To Err is human; to really foul things up requires a Bleeping Computer!

There is definitely some conflict between AVG and ZoneAlarm, lately.
Either internet connection is lost, or web pages don't want to load fully.
Uninstalling one of them seems to solve the issue.

Bingo. They have had that problem in the past as well as a window update conflict. I am trying out Avast but am having a couple problems figuring it out. I have been wondering if I should be looking for a different firewall as well.

I never liked ZoneAlarm either.
I've been using Comodo firewall.
For an average computer user, Windows firewall should be good enough.
