Well, appears to me that either those drives are dead or they are not being sufficiently powered. The fact that capacity doesn't even register is not a good thing, IMO.

I suggest trying them on other systems (easily done, since they are external)...draw your own conclusions from that.

lol i have tried them on other systems, with the same results every time. I all ready drew my conclusions from the get go, i really think they were formatted to something that cannot be read by a computer. I wanted to verify on here or have another reason presented with a possible solution, i guess im stuck . The Sony Blu Ray player has one hell of a byte, so to speak.

ok so i finally found out the blu ray player media format is NTSC. if the drives are in that format, hiw do i view them on a computer. i do not know what format the drives are in as i still cannot access them. also, LG bd590 blu ray players support ntfs, fat16 and fat32. the LG tech support said that the sevice doea not format external devices. if this is the case, then im completly "without a paddle" so to speak. no idea what can be the issue.

Windows XP computer management does not show externals, vista does, so it shows the disks under disk management in vista, there not initialized, i try to initial them and get an option screen to select either MBR(master boot record) or GPT(GUID Partition Table)
NOTE**The GPT partition style is not recognized by all previous verisons of windows. it is recommended for disks larger then 2TB, or disks used on Itanium-based computers.

so i choose MBR and hit ok and i get and error message from Logical Disk Manager says DAta error (cycle redundancy check). i get the same error msg when i choose GPT. where it says the disk space, underneath it says unallocated, i right click and try to create new simple volume from the options list, and it bring me to the new simple volume wizard, asks me to specify volume size, which i specify the size of the disk, asks me to assign a drive letter, or mount in following empty NTFS folder, or do not assign drive path, then give me options to 1)not format this volume, 2)for this volume with NTFS, 3)allocation unit size with a drop down menu to choose various sizes, name the volume and check whether to quick format and or enable file and folder compression.

No matter what i choose there, i get an error message saying the operation cannot be completed because the disk is not initialized.

I need to be able to initialize my disks now so ican format them, anyone know howto do this?**i know how, its not working, does anyone know why?**
