friends xp pro system sp3 IE8. dell e520
toolbar/navigation area is black.
if you change the theme it reverts back to normal, until the next reboot, then it goes black again.
Any thoughts on a permanent fix?

I don't use IE, but I put the issue into Google search and seems like plenty of people are having same issue: http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&...q=&gs_rfai=
For some of them, unsolvable. Most of possible solutions were gathered here: http://www.iecustomizer.com/Resources/Arti...ckToolbars.aspx

Since you have SP3 installed, you'd have to uninstall SP3 first in order to uninstall IE8. IE8 will revert itself to IE7.

dont want to do that.
Not sure where to go form here, is this issue something recent?
perhaps a fix in the works from MS?

Well, if you read through all those links, you can see, that most people are really upset, because MS seems to be doing nothing about it.
I'm not sure, what to tell you at this point, short of suggesting different browser.
