I have tried just abut every website and forum and still coming up empty handed with help on this. I have a Toshiba Satellite M45which gives me the NTLDR is missing error on boot. I tried to follow these steps:

1. Put WindowsXP bootable CD in your CD drive and power on PC
2. When prompt comes Press a key to boot from CD... press any key.
3. Watch the Windows setup screen carefully. When comes Press R for Recovery console, press R.
4. It will ask you to choose Windows installation. Press 1 and then Enter.
5. It will ask for Administrator password. Do so.If no password is set, then just press Enter.
6. Type fixboot C: and press Enter.
7. Type copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\ and press Enter.

but i get an error saying file not found. Also I dont have the recovery disk for the laptop or a valid win xp disc to use.

when i try to run chkdsk /r is stops and stalls at 50% complete and nothing after that. fixmbr and fixboot seems to work but the system still gives me the same error not matter what i try.

any help would be appreciated.

thanks

What CD are you using (if any) to try these steps ?? - You may need your XP CD to perform these steps -

Was this the Code you used for your Chk Dsk - Copy and paste into Start > Run box - Click OK - It will take about 30 mins and reboot your computer -
CMD /C ECHO Y|CHKDSK C: /R | SHUTDOWN /R /T 30

Thanks -
EDIT - NTLDR (abbreviation of NT Loader) is the boot loader for all releases of Microsoft's Windows NT operating system up to and including Windows XP

If chkdsk /r stalls momentarily...give it time.

If it cannot complete because of either hard drive or file system problems, it will normally indicate such by an error message.

FWIW: Ntldr Is Missing Fix, Romeo29 - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic170057.html

In the absence of a Microsoft XP CD...I suggest trying to borrow one with the same version and SP installed...as your current system.
