BleepingComputer.com: UNINVITED persistant "AUTOMATIC BOOKMARKS"...How to block?

How to block UNINVITED "AUTOMATIC BOOKMARKS" from being installed by "voo doo sneakery" into my Favorites? (sorry for the long post)

I used the Favorites/bookmark search bar, e.g. for BBC.co.uk, which (I never visited intentionally) turns up about 20 to 38 bookmarked articles I did not access (not always the most savory topics). I delete them and yet a similar bunch reappears a few minutes or days later. I have installed the add-on "Better Privacy" ( I recommend highly) to manage and delete (most other than bank&gmail) Flash Cookies, but how are these UNINVITED "AUTOMATIC BOOKMARKS" getting there, and how do I BLOCK them?

I scan with Spybot and AVG daily. Tools>options>privacy set to not accept 3rd party bookmarks + ask every time; exceptions set to block all bbc.co.uk cookies.

I include the latest crop, of the past hour...pardon me for being a space-hog. ...I searched my computer for any other ".stm" files...none found besides the ""news.bbc.co.uk ... .stm"" files which I reluctantly listed below.

I do ALSO wonder what the "security implications", if any, are. The files use the extension .stm , so on checking with file-extensions.org (http://www.file-extensions.org/stm-file-extension-sealed-html-document-file)...I found the following description (10 file-associations were listed for .stm, but would this be the appropriate one?) ... seems a bit freaky to me!. YOUR INSIGHTS ARE IMPORTANT TO ME, it goes without saying.

I'm not too sure what you mean here, but it sounds like you reffering to some Live Bookmarks which display the Latest Headlines in your browser.

What internet browser are you using exactly, and what is it concerning you about having the latest headlines in your bookmarks list?

Do you just want to permanantly delete the live bookmarks coming from the bbc so they never come again?

I am using Firefox 3.6.
Did not know about 'live feed' feature, I will check it out now that I do.

Didn't have any idea where it was coming from. Inadvertently picked it up somehow. Perhaps on the upgrade to Firefox 3.6. We use British spelling here in Canada, & on choosing that option, got unknowingly hooked-up to a UK-Euro download. Of course I uninstalled and went for the State-side edition, made more sense to just go with US spelling...whatever.

Had not explored the use of this Bookmark Toolbar before.

I don't use Firefox so I'm not sure how to cancel the 'subscription' through your browser.

Firefox has the Latest Headlines susbcribed to as default when you install it, you can delete it if you like but it's handy to be able to see the latest headlines from a dropdown sometimes.

I'd have thought a US/canada install would have a different site other than BBC though cause you are getting UK headlines, so maybe you are still on the UK install or something.

Anyway you can delete this and add other sites as you please if they have an RSS feed..
