Hi there!

I'm having the following trouble accessing some sites. I have done several hours of research and I can't find the solution.

1. GOOGLE When I type www.google.com I get this message:
"The connection has timed out
The server at www.google.com is taking too long to respond.
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."
2.YAHOO
-I get the same message as above, but I can still go to yahoo's webpage, click on things such as entertainment, but i can't do searches on www.yahoo.com, but I can do searches on www.yahoo.ca
3.YOUTUBE
-only problem is that I can't log in. when i try to log in I also get the same "connection timed out mssg"

What have I done so far to try and fix the problem?
1. cleared cookies,temp files,etc.
2. run mcafee security scan>>found no virus
3. tried changing Google DNS server :
http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using.html
>>didn't work
4. tried fixing host file ("fix it for me option"):
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972034
>>I got the "connection timed out mssg"

I have no idea what I am supposed to do. Can someone please help me. I use my desktop computer for school often and this makes things hard for me. Please leave clear instructions. I'm not very internet savvy, but I can't follow instructions well. Thanks. Have a good day.

Hi and welcome,

Have you tried to connect using the IP?
http://74.125.77.104/ (google.com)

If this work you probably got a DNS-problem and we will continue from there

Hi again,

I'm sorry for the late response but I will try to help with this.

As you have followed the guide at google and changed the DNS-servers, I would like to begin to roll back that procedure.

I would like to know what OS (Operating System) you are using.
Have you received and information about DNS-settings from your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?
Do you know if you got a static or dynamic IP-address?

/Barilla

Hi

1. OS: Microsoft Windows XP Edition
2. not sure how to check if I did get info about dns settings
3. not sure how to check if it's static or dynamic

I also had broken links so I downloaded http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe and when I click on links under www.yahoo.ca the links aren't broken anymore.
-But, now when I go to www.google.com I get:
"Oops! This link appears to be broken" instead of connection timed out mssg
-Also, I can get to www.yahoo.com but when I do searches I get "Oops! This link appears to be broken"
I can only do searches using www.yahoo.ca
-still can't sign in on youtube

Greetings,

as you have used ComboFix, I am not allowed to help you anymore. As CF is such a powerful tool and I haven't even tried it, I feel like I am the wrong guy to help you out.
Could someone who got the knowledge about ComboFix help this guy, please?

/Barilla

Hi,

update: I'm still experiencing the same problem. I was just wondering if there's someone out there that could at least point me in the right direction.
I get the following message when I type www.google.com or try to log into my youtube account.

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

Thanks,

Janet

Open a command prompt window (start -> run(search in Vista) -> type "cmd" (without the quotes) and press enter)

In the black box that appears type "ping www.google.com" (without the quotes) and press enter.

Now right click the black box, choose "mark", highlight everything, press enter, and paste the results in a reply here

You have a bad IP in your cache for Google. It could be is an infection but lets check a couple more things first.

Open up command prompt and type "ipconfig /all" copy and paste everything back.

Once you do that type "ipconfig /flushdns" in command prompt. Now open up your browser and delete all cookies/temp internet files/etc.(You can leave your passwords if you have them saved there).

Try navigating to www.google.com

Did it load? If not, post a new ping to google.com (in command prompt type ping www.google.com).

Google results return that you are infected. http://www.google.com/search?q=206.53.61.77&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

Numerous topics about it, you need to post in the Am I Infected? forum.
