Hi there,

I am having a problem daily now with my desktop PC which is making me think I might need to get rid of it and buy a new one!

It runs with Windows XP and I have AVG Free on it.

Every day now the screen colours often seem to flicker and fade into washy paler colours then while I am just carrying out my work, the PC switches itself off??? Very frustrating and then it takes a good while to power up. It does this nearly every day now and I'm wondering if it is time to upgrade to a laptop.

Any advice?

Thanks.

Hi, try a different monitor. That could be the issue, or it could be a video card in the computer.
Just cause its easier, try the monitor first.

Also, post the computer brand, and all the info you can so we can help you better.

FWIW: Laptop, desktop...they all can have problems.

IMO, the major difference is that a desktop is much easier to attempt troubleshooting and repairs on, with a minimal loss of utility and minimal monetary expenditure. Individual components on a desktop can be replaced by the user in most cases, while this is not true of laptops.
