Manual or automatic refresh?

Is that normal? Shouldn't my Win XP Home automatically refresh all sites whenever I re-visit them, without me having to hit the refresh button?

It also tells you the last state the page was in when you left. Cookies remember a lot of things about visits to websites and what not.

Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.

The cookie is sent as an HTTP header by a web server to a web browser and then sent back unchanged by the browser each time it accesses that server. A cookie can be used for authentication, session tracking (state maintenance), storing site preferences, shopping cart contents, the identifier for a server-based session, or anything else that can be accomplished through storing textual data.
As text, cookies are not executable. Because they are not executed, they cannot replicate themselves and are not viruses. Due to the browser mechanism to set and read cookies, they can be used as spyware. Anti-spyware products may warn users about some cookies because cookies can be used to track people or violate privacy concerns.
Most modern browsers allow users to decide whether to accept cookies, and the time frame to keep them, but rejecting cookies makes some websites unusable.
From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie
Read from there they store session information and what not. They do more then just store authentication credentials.

I mean, AOL seems to let me surf around quite nicely, so why on earth should I want to switch to IE?

As stated above, AOL uses Internet Explorer. If it is slow in one it should be slow in the other. I however use AOL, and it never fails to load websites, and it is a 100% speed for speed in comparison to IE and FF.

I do know people who have no trouble with AOL loading websites and the fact of the matter is, like most things, things on the computer do not always work the same way for all people, as in, YMMV.

I recently installed a new router and the AOL software that came with it, I haven't a clue what AOL software version it is but there are a lot of annoying "frayed ends" with it that need tidying up.
I've considered switching to another provider in the past but who's to say there aren't frayed ends there too, so for me it's a case of "better the devil you know"..
