Intermittent displaay on dell laptop

Have a dell laptop on which the display works sometimes and everything appears normal, and at other times the display shows two white streaks that are vertical which occupy the two sides of the screen with a black vertical line in the middle. Do you think that by updating or refreshing the driver when the display works, I could maybe get rid of this intermittent display problem?

Ill give you the make and model number of the laptop when I post again, cause right now the laptop isnt with me.

sounds more like a display problem then a video driver.
plug in an external monitor and see if the same issue occurs.
