BleepingComputer.com: Blue screen when computer gets hot it seems

I have a gateway laptop model MT6821. It wouldnt charge the other day so I thought the adapter that is connected to the mother board had broke off or something because I read these models have problems like that. So I took my laptop apart all the way down to the mother board and everything seemed fine so I put it back together and figured it had to be the cord. So I got a new cord and it charges the battery now but anytime I hear the fan kick or there is a lot of processing the computer will blue screen. I cant even have it plugged in or it will blue screen. The only way it will not blue screen all the time is if I am running off just the battery and have the power setting set to max battery life. Even then sometimes if I try to watch a movie online it will blue screen sometimes. It seems like as soon as I hear the fan kick on or the processor working harder then a few secs later it blue screens. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you took it apart you may have accidental loosened or damaged a connection.

What is the Blue Screen error message?

I am trying to make it happen right now I will let you know when it does. How come it would only be when it gets hot though and not when it is running in power saver mode?

Maybe the loose connection is for the fan and so when the fan kicks in it causes a hardware problem and hence a Blue Screen. Just a guess.

Ok I am on it now playing with photoshop so hopefully it does it soon so I can tell you the message. The fan is running right now and no problems so far. Thanks for all your help so far too.

The computer just shuts off without a blue screen. Its when I turn it back on that it blue screens booting up. The message says.


Stop:C0000021a (Fatal System Error)
The windows logon process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000402 (0x00000000 0x00000000)
The system has been shut down.

Also I took the back part back off the comp and pullled the fan out and on the back of the fan where it sits over the processor was a little silver tape type thing but it was hanging off so I had removed it the first time. Could this be the problem?

You need to be careful about how the fan sits over the processor. Sometimes they require the application of thermal grease. Anything loose in there that could cause a short might result in a blue screen.

It just did the other blue screen that it was doing before on start up and this is what that message says.

And that silver tape stuff seemed to be like melted off or something.. It sat right over the black part of the processor though

I suggest uninstalling InCD and leaving it uninstalled.

If that doesn't do it, then uninstall Nero and then reinstall it.

If you actually use packet-writing (I guess I thought that everyone had stopped that), then possibly uninstall the entire Nero package and reinstall it.

Thanks for all your help. Yeah I dont use it anymore. Hopefully this will solve everything. Do you still think I am possibly infected with something?
