Virus problem solved, now need to do a clean install

Hi Guys

I have been sent over here by extremeboy at Security > Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs who. along with Myrti help me sort out a root it virus problem, thanks guys.

Anyhoo! The virus caused many system files to fail and I have had problems doing a repair install and clean install so they have sent me over here as, they said you were the experts :huh:

I tried the repair install, following the instructions from this link

but it crashed just after starting, downloaded the updates and started installing but got to a point saying it couldn't continue and start again and re download the updates. I did that but it just gave me the same message.

It also gives me the message that I have a Dell printer installed and to remove it using add/remove programs, I have no Dell printer installed and also it is not in add/remove programs .

I then backed everything up and tried a clean install, following the instructions from here

But it stopped doing anything just before stage 3, I got the screen with the wavy lines but that was it

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated, tell me what you need

Running Windows 7 Ultimate, have disk

Pentium Dual CPU E2140 1.6GHz

3.00GB ram

32 bit operating system

Where did you get Windows 7?
Was it an upgrade or what?

I got Windows 7 from Amazon so guess it is legit.

It was an "Upgrade Designed for Windows Vista" that's what it says on the box

Your best bet would to reformat the drive seeing as you already said you backed it up. If you do not want to do that you can do an inplace upgrade. Throw in your 7 disk and follow the screen. when you get to the point where it is asking you where to install it select your partition but do not format the drive, click on the on that just say install windows 7 without formatting. This will install windows 7 replacing all system files and keeping all your data and programs intact

Just curious how you were able to get a virus on windows 7?

No operating system is immune to malware.

If its made by man then it can be broken by man.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.
