I posted a question last night and someone suggested Combofix. I have an HP laptop, running Windows XP. I don't know how to get details on versions, etc., since this malware issue is blocking me all over the place. Examples: I just ran Windows Defender scan and it reports I have no malware and everything is running well. I also have Norton, and it did not protect me.
My problem is when I go to control panel and go to add/remove programs (I'm trying to remove Norton and have the remover tool on my desktop), but when I try to open add/remove it I get the message " c:\windows\system32\rundl32.exe Application not found."
When I try to open and install combofix (also on my desktop), it takes me to an "open with" box, which gives me browser choices, etc. This is the same thing which happens when I try to open other applications, and I keep getting "application not found" messages.
I have successfully removed worms in the past, but it was some time ago, and this has me stumped, at least for the moment. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks.

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around
