I'm a little slow with this stuff. What do I do once I'm on that page? Do I go to "View and request hotfix downloads" or something else?

Thank you. Sorry about all the stupid questions. I am just terrible at some things on the computer!

Anyway, I clicked View and request hotfix downloads. There was one on there (that said it was for Vista), so I entered my email. It was sent. I did exactly what the email said and clicked the link, ran and unzipped the thing, saved it to my desktop, ran the program, and the Windows Update Standalone Downloader tells me that it's Searching for Updates. It searches, then tells me that "The update does not apply for your system." Did I do something wrong here?

If nothing works and you're sure your Avira is fine, you can do this: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows...ows-doesnt-find

I just checked, and they are up to date.

Well, I'm not positive that the Avira is alright, because when it gets to about 16% it freezes, and I have to reboot the computer by holding the power button in. Should I try what you posted anyway?

OK, I did what that link said, but I would still like to find out if my system is alright. I haven't been able to run the full scan in about 3 months, and I'm afraid it's something more than just the red shield. Thanks for all the help so far!!

Possible.

I suggest, you post in "Am I Infected?" forum.

OK. Is there any way you can transfer this thread so they will know everything that's going on? Seems a bit easier.

Just uninstall Avira, reboot, download latest from www.freeav.com and reinstall, reboot and update.
You can also use avast! from www.avast.com
