On my taskbar, the little red shield with an X through it appears. When I click on it, it tells me under "Malware Protection" that "Windows did not find antivirus software on this computer. I actually have Avira on here, and it is working. Could someone please help me find out what the problem is? Thank you so much in advance for the assistance.

---Kate

Download Security Check from HERE, and save it to your Desktop.

* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
* Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

Do you have automatic updates enabled Kate orpossibly at the time when you booted up your pc was your internet off or disconnected? I use avira too, and on the odd occasion that I have booted up my pc with the internet disabled, I have had the same icon as you described in my task bar. once I go online however, the automatic update of avira, downloads any updates and the avira icon then shows once again.

"Malware Protection" may be a fake warning.
Please go to "Am I Infected?" forum and have your computer checked.

Can you take a picture of screenshot of the actual window that is popped up by clicking that icon in the system tray?

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

My apologies for the delayed response. I've been busy with work and school. I really appreciate all the help so far.

Broni: Can we simply transfer this thread if that is the case? I also have McAfee Internet Security (I believe that's what it's called. It pops up once in a while, and it only runs for a second or two), and that said the same thing the last time it popped up and tried to check the computer. But Avira does say it's enabled. Here is something I forgot to post before: Avira seems to freeze every time I run it, so it never completes, and I end up having to shut the computer down by holding in the power button (When it freezes, I am not able to do anything with my system).

cryptodan: I will take a screenshot and post it here. I just wanted to hurry and respond so the thread won't close. :huh:

I have attached to this reply a screen shot of the message that appears when I click on the red shield.

Edit: Actually, I don't know how to make the file smaller (It's 791k). Sorry. :\
