My dad-in-law has a Dell laptop Inspiron 2600 1.25GHz, 256K, Celeron with Win xp home that WAS functioning fine... He wanted to give it to another family member but preferred the hard drive was wiped clean. I used Darik's Boot and Nuke ("DBAN") and then reloaded with the original Win xp home disc and all went well. The computer/monitor functioned normally until on a reboot after the reinstall, the monitor (after the "normal" Windows XP splash screen)went black. I hooked up an external monitor and it mimics the laptop. So every time I reboot, I get the splash screen and then black. I believe the the computer would be fully functional if the monitor worked because I can hear the usual "sounds". alsoooo, I can't remember if I was able to install the driver disc before the problem, although a generic video driver should have allowed it to function. I went to Dell and hooking-up an external monitor was mentioned, followed by pressing FN & F8 keys at the same time. It didn't toggle back and forth or anything.
Any help is appreciated, Thanks
