Trying to delete a partition

I cant seem to delete a partition, says a program is already being used, im 99% sure it isnt the dx files because i installed it also in the C: drive and i could move those dx files in D:

right click my computer, manage, disk management, try to delete partition and it says a program is being used

You can't remove partition from within Windows unless you use 3rd party progra:

You are grossly mistaken. You can do so via Disk Management. No external or 3rd party applications needed.

You just can't remove the main partition that is flagged as bootable.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

I delete partitions via Disk Management all the time, but a user cannot delete the system partition if he is in it. I don't have any systems with recovery/restore partitions...so I don't know if they can be deleted or not from within XP.

Some of these restore/recovery partitions are set up as EISA partitions, which may prove a bit troublesome to delete.

What you showed us looks like a CD install. Can you show us Disk Management?

really? the file name is 7000.0.081212-1400_client_en-us_Ultimate-GB1CULFRE_EN_DVD.iso.dlm , i had vista installed before in the c: drive and then i moved to xp,

Disk management.... kk

Highlight the data partition then a menu should come up you should then beable to delete the partition.

How to delete a partition or a logical drive
To delete a partition or logical drive:

1. In the Disk Management window, right-click the partition or logical drive that you want to delete, and then click Delete Partition or Delete Logical Drive.
2. Click Yes when you are prompted to delete the partition or logical drive. The partition or logical drive is deleted.

Important

* When you delete a partition or a logical drive, all the data on that partition or logical drive, and the partition or the logical drive, are deleted.
* You cannot delete the system partition, boot partition, or a partition that contains the active paging (swap) file.
* You cannot delete an extended partition unless the extended partition is empty. All logical drives in the extended partition must be deleted before you can delete the extended partition.
