Is it damage to hard drive or just fan going out??

I am running Windows XP and have a Compaq nc6000 laptop. I have recently had some problems with virus and have Malware and Avast on it. It is now making a noise like the fan is running loud. When I go to a different page like here from "my topics" to "forums" it is making a clanking noise. Does anyone have any idea what that could be??

Unless a pro said your computer is malware free, be very suspicious.

Your description of a clanking noise and the fan makes me believe you might have a piece of the ducting loose for the CPU fan
The only way to tell would be to take the unit apart

Is it a metallic clanking?

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.
