SVCHOST.EXE How to remove the virus svchost.exe from Windows 7 64bit

Hi Guys,

Can anyone tell me how to remove the svchost.exe virus from my system? I have eleven of them.They use up so much memory that my system is slowed to a crawl. It is very frustrating.
The Operating System I am using is Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

What make you think svchost.exe is a virus. IMHO you might Google svchost.exe. There is lots of information that will be of help.

I have 11 svchost.exe running too, in Win7 x64. They're all legit. You can d/l and install Process Explorer, which will tell you which Windows services each instance of svchost is needed for. Great program, free, and puts my mind at rest about running programs like this:

Excellent replies.

In Vista and Win 7, open TaskManager/Processes, right click on one of the svchost entries and choose 'Go to Services'.

This will highlight all the services running under that particular ID (PID).

In real English this takes away a lot of the mystery which confuses so many people. You can also stop a service at this point, BUT, be very careful or you may crash your machine and require a reboot if you pick a critical System Service.
