I am running Windows 7 on an Emachines E525 and I just purchased the laptop approx 3 weeks ago. Upon bootup last night I received the following error message:

"A disk read error occurred Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart"

this message is on the black DOS prompt type screen.

After entering Ctrl + Alt + Del it gives me the opportunity to F2 for setup then continues to start windows normally.

Any suggestions?! Sometimes the reboot works sometimes I have to do it a couple times before it will actually boot. I need some help please!

If you are still having this problem.

Next time windows runs okay, go to COMPUTER, right click your harddrive and choose PROPERTIES click the TOOLS tab where it says ERROR CHECKING click the check now button.

It will offer to do this next time it boots, suggestion, don't do it unless your not going to need the computer for a while as it can take several hours to complete.

let it run and see if that does not fix your problem.

Please take notice. Oreo and I will not be available until June of 2012.
Thank you for understanding my absence, it is job and college related, so all is good. If I do not answer your PMs this is the reason why. See you all soon!

Bruce.
