BleepingComputer.com: Installing Ubuntu on a wonky laptop

I have a laptop which I think has something wrong with the videocard, considering you see it doing wonky pixelation and flickering screen if the cooler isn't running on 100% all the time. I tried Ubuntu live, (after windows xp had been on for a while) ...but pixellations came not long after. My guess is something in ubuntu doesn't let the cooler go on full power.
Any advice for me?

If you haven't cleared the vents and opened up the laptop to clean out the dust, that could be
the problem.

I just openned the laptop today, and uncovered a sponge of dust, that I could rip off in there. ;P
Man it was a hassle, it was a little bit of a puzzle trying to get everything seperated.
Heat seems to properly vent now, and I've turned the fan back to automatic instead of on full. I will be trying ubuntu live later today, and see if the problem is fixed.

I started the live cd...and I got somewhat deal...except the flickering of the screen or pixelation from overheating. It still looks as if the monitor is crosseyed

Post the brand and model of your laptop.
Post the info for your video card. (manufacturer and model)
Post the amount of RAM. (minimum to run live CD is 350mb)

When you cleaned the computer did the fan(s) blades look clean? Did you use a Q-tip or compressed air to complete the cleaning?

Ubuntu may not of had the drivers needed for your video card. It is possible that there are none that will work flawlessly. Either I or
someone else may be able to help you to determine if it is a driver isssue or something else after posting the info above.
