Download this: http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/downloa...corderV2RC1.msi It is a great tool for burning disks. It has never failed me.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

You locate the file you downloaded from Samsung's website then open it up in it. Its pretty simple.

i right-clicked the ISO Recorder file folder and chose "create iso image file". the cd recording wizard opened.

"directory" was selected - c:\program files\alex feinman\ISO Recorder

"target" was highlited - c:\program files\alex feinman\ISO Recorder.iso

do i change the target to the Hutil file path?

You will need to remove all text after the .iso after you extract the file from this download: http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd...CDROM_drive.zip

Follow the steps in the following images:

1) http://www.cryptodan.net/img/iso_recorder/...rder_step_1.png

2) http://www.cryptodan.net/img/iso_recorder/...rder_step_2.png

everything here is different than in the image links.

after downloading and extracting, i right-clicked on the file and chose "open". an "open file" dialog opened. i clicked "open" an "open with" dialog opened. i chose "ISO Recorder" and then clicked "ok".another "open file" dialog opened and i clicked "open". the cd recording wizard opened.
i tried to remove the text after ".iso" and it said it couldn't open it. i started over and it opened and ran to finish.
am i ready to run the utility?

first i'd like to say thanks for getting me through that. running the utility was simple but burning the iso was major to me. my thanks.

next, i never saw a log file that i could copy and paste. is there one except for on the disk? i took the disk out before i realized it was on there.
i wrote down this info prior to ending it:
errors detected in this test
recommend to erase hdd
all data will be lost
back up before running erase hdd; then run test again.

read surface scan
c:154 h:0 s:136

what all do i need to back up in order to prepare for this action and will it all fit on cd?
will this erase the operating system?

what do i need to do now?

You need to back up anything you deem important. We cannot determine that for you.

set max address
-recover native size >enter
erase hdd
-low level format >enter
set max udma
-leave this one as is?
automatic acoustic management
-middle >enter
run self diagnostic last in order
install backup after reboot

Erase the drive via low level formatting.
