I am having difficulty with a few things. First I can't access the "add/remove program". I'll get the hourglass for half a second, like it's loading, but then nothing will happen. Also when I go to restart or shut down I just get stuck on the "windows is shutting down screen" I've already posted on another forum thinking I had a different problem but it didn't fix the problem. Here is the link for that Visit My Website
Thank you!

Shutdown problems/issues...have existed as long as Windows. Lots of causes, some successes at eliminating the nuisance.

You can take a look at:

Windows XP Shutdown Troubleshooter - http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.php

Troubleshooting Windows Shutdown Problems - http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_...s-Shutdown.html

As for Add/Remove Programs....try running #323 at http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm, according to directions.

hmm I really don't know what to do with that #323 and the other link are too vague. It's cool though, like I said this isn't my main computer so it's no big deal. I just wanted to fix it up.

in your other thread you had a BSOD when you "try" to shut down can you give us the STOP: error which might give us the cause of not shutting down property

#323 wants you to uninstall that Security Update KB840374 by using the Spuninst.exe utility to remove this security update.
The Spuninst.exe utility is located in the %Windir%\$NTUninstallKB840374$\Spuninst folder to work around that problem.

I expected #323 to be a script prepared by the author/website owner...most of those links on that page are scripts which merely need to be downloaded and double-clicked on to attempt the fix.

Looking at that, I don't think it applies to you...disregard it.

<<...and the other link are too vague>>

That's the nature of shutdown situations...many possible causes, some known cures.

Thanks coxchris and Louis for responding again. I'll be away for most of the weekend, but when I return I will read it more carefully and go from there. Thanks again.
