Performance Adversely Affected by Hard Drive Size?

I have 240 gb hard drive. Would my programs open considerably faster using a 30 or 40gb hard drive. I really do not need all that space. I am more interested in performance than storage.

Windows XP Professional 2002 sp3 32bit (ACPI Multiprocessor PC); Google Chrome and Mozilla w/Keyscramble
Processors: Twin Dual Core E5200's @ 2.5 GHz & 2 GB of RAM;..... MOTHERBOARD: INTEL
Hard Drive: Seagate 240GB ST3250310AS;..... SECURITY: Realtime is Avira (free) and Online Armor (free)
DVD/CD Drive: ATAPI DVD A DH20A4P;..... MALWARE Scanners: MBAM, SAS
WIRELESS: Linksys Wireless-N USB Network Adapter;..... DISPLAY Adaptors: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 SE/7200 GS

is it IDE or SATA? in all reality, I notice little to no performance loss from larger hard drives. perhaps slightly faster seek times, but even there using smaller partitions will do the same thing as a smaller hard drive.

Media Center: Motherboard: Gigabyte mp61p-S3, Processor: AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+, Memory: 6 gigs Patriot DDR2 800, Video: Saphire 4850, Storage: 500 gig Hitachi, PSU: OCZ Fatal1ty 550 watt modular PSU, OS: Windows 7 Ultimate.

So it all comes down to RAM then?

I do not know if I have IDE or SATA. Is it tedius to find out?

Speaking in simple terms, over time, hard drives became bigger, but faster at the same time, so it makes things pretty much even.
In any case, we're talking miliseconds here, so....who'll notice.

I see. I am not to worried about it then. I thought maybe if I went to a much smaller drive that some of my security programs like MBAM might open in 1 second instead of 4 or 5 seconds.

In that case, hard drive speed doesn't have much to do with it.
It's more about your processor speed, amount/type of RAM and general cleanness of your computer.

Your computer specs look very good, but you have to realize, that some programs take more time to open, than others. Nothing strange here.

ya, reality of it is the best way to improve hard drive performance would be a raid setup which would basically be linking 2 identical hard drives together, to put it simply. fast CPU and lots of ram is more important there. I only use a single 500 GB hard drive and it performs plenty fast.

Well, in that case, I am in pretty good shape.

I am one of those types of users that prefer lightning fast responses, via a click of the mouse, when possible. Who doesn't, right?
