BleepingComputer.com: 3 usb modem cant find device(uk)

so i want to update the firmware on my 3 huawei e220 dongle on 3 network in uk , and it tells me to take the sim out and press next . i have done that but it keeps saying device cant be found. i have patched it but it will not allow me to update firmware as it cant be found . i have looked at the device manager and it says its working properly and that no drivers are needed. please could someone tell me if there is anything i can do to make this device be found by the new firmware
