I have had the Pixma for 2 years without an issue. Then it just would not be recognized by XP, telling me the printer was offline or connection to USB port was not recognized. It was suggested that the cable was faulty and upon replacement that solved the issue. Now 3 months later I again start receiving the same warning. Will try another cable but could this be some thing else?
Thanks.

Did you check your Device Manager for any yellow exclamation points, red X's or question marks?
If you have one by the USB controller delete that device and reboot the computer
Windows should re-detect them
