BleepingComputer.com: cannot load vista after sp1 install

Hope someone can help me.

I have the same problem as posted previously here:

I stupidly accepted to install SP1 this afternoon. When I returned to my comp it was turned off!

I restarted it and had the screen that said it had shut down unexpectedly, I pressed to start in normal mode, the green bar flashed for a while and then a lot of different files flashed accross the top of a black screen stopping on : Oxc0190036 !! 3673/90382 (Msftwdf_kernel_01005_inbox_critical.wdf)

I then have to try to reboot the comp. I have followed all the instructions in the above link. The restore won't work. I only have one restore point which was created just before the SP1 started down loading. The repair says it has worked but I still can't load windows.

I am stuck only being able to load from my OS disk. Is there a way that I can remove SP1 from the command (Source) prompt.

I have read several previous posts with a similar problem but can't find any that managed to fix it. Is my only option to do a complete re-installation?

If you have Vista DVD...

If you don't have Vista DVD...

1. Create Vista Recovery Disc.

Option 1:

Option 2:
Download Vista Recovery Disc iso image: http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vist...-disc-download/
Burn it to CD, or DVD: http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/G/Burning...+to+a+CD+or+DVD

2. Boot from created disk.
At first screen click on Repair your computer:

This will bring you to a new screen where the repair process will look for all Windows Vista installations on your computer. When done you will be presented with the System Recovery Options dialog box:

After this, it will present you with a list of options including startup repair, system restore and command prompt:

Try System Restore, first.
If that doesn't work, try Startup Repair.

I do have my vista installation disk and have tried the restore and startup fix but neither works. the restore just says it is finalizing restore but never finishes.

I have a restore point just before the SP1 installation started.

Do you think I should create a new recovery disk from your link and see if it works.? Could it be different from the one I have? I did read something about the old installation disk will not work because it was made before SP1.

I have now created the recovery disk, when I try to use it it says that this version is not compatible with my version of windows.

When I try to start windows vista in normal mode it stops on an error: 0xco190036 3673/90382 Msftwdf_kernel_01005_Inbox_critical.wdf

Is there a way that I can just delete this file from command source?

You may be facing reinstall.
Microsoft has free SP support: http://support.microsoft.com/sp
You may try to contact them.

I finally gave up and tried to re-install but I kept coming up with an error. I was just about to throw the whole thing through the window when I had the bright idea of cleaning the disk and trying an alternative drive. Bingo it worked!!!!
