Right now I have ESET (NOd32). The subscription just expired and I don't feel like paying $41. Can anyone suggest something as good or better?
Thank you.

Personally, I've no problem running Windows Firewall, but you may find some helpful info on choosing a Firewall HERE.

Regardless, is MSE Antivirus better than Avast? Can I install MSE Firewall only or should I go with Comodo alltogether?

Every real-time protection software uses resources, and Avast is generally known as fairly light.

Have you considered Windows Firewall? Here is an article talking about the 'importance' of outbound protection.

They are both good AVs. MSE doesn't have a firewall.

Don't use CIS because your System Restore will be affected. With the instalation of CIS will be created in system32/drivers a file named sfi.dat who is responsible for some malfunctions as fragments you can't fix and failures on System Restore.
Thanks John
