Firewall: Reliable and Lightweight

Hello. I am looking for rerialble and lighweight firewall with antivirus that is not very expensive, or even free.

Right now I have ESET (NOd32). The subscription just expired and I don't feel like paying $41. Can anyone suggest something as good or better?

Comodo Internet Sec. has what you're looking for and it's free. The firewall has a very good reputation, don't know about the AV though.

Avast FREE for Antivirus. The newly released version 5 runs very light.

Personally, I've no problem running Windows Firewall, but you may find some helpful info on choosing a Firewall HERE.

I agree, Windows Firewall is a good choice.

Windwos Firewall for XP? I know 7 has a great FW, but XP?

ALSO, is Nod32 still good?

Yes, for XP. Nod32 is good, but I don't see why you would want to pay when Avast and MSE are equal, if not better, and free as well.

Avast is great, and I recommend it to my friends. But it does take resources and it is only anti-virus, allthough it has internet security options but for anti-virus purposes only. So I will need to install Comodo or some other fireweall. Pending my resources are medium and few years old, except video card, I don't want to lag too much. And being pampered by Nod32 transparency, I am searching for something very very similar in Free world. I know Nod32 is not perfect, as it allowed a few infections in the past year but it's not bad.

Regardless, is MSE Antivirus better than Avast? Can I install MSE Firewall only or should I go with Comodo alltogether?

Comodo can be run side by side with AVG Free with no conflicts. I have this combo on several systems and install this combo on my friend's systems work on with great results.

I hear that Sygate 5.6 is a good firewall and light weight. I don't know maybe someone has experience with it. i use McAfee the whole kit and it's a hog. Comodo only offers a 30 day trial. I like Avira myself and it is lightweight. I would combine the two Avira and Sygate. What do the experts think of that combo?

Every real-time protection software uses resources, and Avast is generally known as fairly light.

Have you considered Windows Firewall? Here is an article talking about the 'importance' of outbound protection.

They are both good AVs. MSE doesn't have a firewall.

Ok I just installed MSE. Looks like it is Firewall as well as Anti-virus. Here is my problem with it right away: It collects and sends information about infected files, including the location of the found viruses, Etc. So, while I am not planning on going anywhere hostile, I feel uncomfortable having this thing reporting my whereabouts. ANy idea how I can turn it off?
