I burned over 20 music cds using these Sony brand cdrs. Had no problems whatsoever. A few weeks later I go to make another music cd, and now I can't burn. Media Player gives me "Windows Media Player cannot burn the files to the CD. Verify that the disc is clean and not damaged. If necessary, select a slower recording speed or try a different brand of blank discs."

Well, I've lowered the burning speed to 'slow'. I've tried using various programs to burn with. I've tried like 3 different discs thinking maybe a couple in the pack were defective or something. Nothing.

Could this just be a sign that my drive is done for? It IS an old laptop so maybe after all that burning I did, its about ready to call it a life-span? Why else would a drive stop liking a certain brand all of a sudden after getting along with it quite intimately??? Help me out folks.

That makes sense. Any other possibilities?

Drive could by dying.

IME, optical drives seldom fail doing everything all at once...they go bit by bit.
