Hello and thank you in advance for your assistance.
Three weeks ago, I noticed that my PC was suddenly performing drastically slower than normal and my hard drive was active 10x more than usual. So I updated my antivirus & malware scanners, restarted in safe mode, and ran Ccleaner, ATF cleaner, McAfee virus scan, SuperAntiSpyware, and Malwarebytes. None of the scans revealed anything suspicious. But, when I restarted the PC in normal mode, the sluggishness persisted AND both Zone Alarm and SuperAntiSpyware were disabled.
I'm running Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (build 2600) with automatic updates on. And McAfee VirusScan Version 99.9.99 with Realtime File Scanning On.
