I have been trying to install an epson sx215 printer for several days without success. I am operating vista 32 bit.
Tried installing from the disc provided get a message saying installation unsuccessful restart your computer and try again. Tried several times without success.
In device manager under other devices I have yellow ! against epson scanner, usb2.0 mass storage and usb 2.0 printer. Tried unistalling and downloading drivers from epson website. When I try to run I get a message saying driver cannot be installed because it is currently being used by windows.
Its driving me mad. Any assistance gratefully received

Les

Try updating your USB Port drivers ala the chipset drivers.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

Turn computer off. Disconnect printer cable from the computer.
Turn computer on.
Uninstall printer driver and printer software.
Try to install fresh driver again.
Re-connect printer cable only, when installation program asks you to do so.

Does your printer even have drivers for Vista?

Yes the printer is comatible with vista. Ive installed it on a laptop running vista but cannot get to install on my desktop.
Tried downloading the drivers from the website and when I try to install I get a message saying "This driver cannot be installed because it is currently being used by windows"
Its got me baffled

Did you follow the instructions suggested by Broni in post #4 of this thread?

Would the driver be used by windows in safe mode? My first thought would be to try to install from safe mode.
Those who know more than I do will have to chime in on whether that would be something to try.

Not sure how a driver that is not there (uninstalled) is being seen as used by a driver you are attempting to install. Has me totally lost.

Have tried poking around on the Epson site UK link. But it is very slow for me. You may have better luck. I was trying to see if they offered an uninstall utility.

When something is listed under Other Devices in device manager, it's because drivers have not been installed for that device.
Not sure this would work, but you could open up Device Manager, right click on the printer in Other Devices, then uninstall the printer.
Turn off the computer, unplug the printer from the computer, turn the computer back on.
Try to reinstall the drivers, don't plug the printer back up to the computer until instructed to do so by the installation program.

Do you have any older printers still installed? A printer you used in the past and never completely uninstalled? I just had a job where an old Lexmark installation was causing problems trying to install a new hp printer. I removed all printers and software, restarted the computer and then installed the new printer. She had old print jobs stuck in the queue, that were causing problems. Look in your add/remove and see if you have any older printer software there you can remove.
