heres the physical difference-hard drive on the left is a SATA hard drive, hard drive on the right is a PATA/IDE hard. spec wise, the transfer rate for a IDE is about 133 mb/s while SATA is considerably faster, sata I is about 1.5 gb/s and sata II is about 3 gb/s and the new SATA III is supposed to run at speeds of 6 gb/s. Most older machines use IDE hard drives, and use 4 pin molex power connectors, while most new machines use sata, and have their own sata power connectors. most custom motherboards do have an IDE controller on them however.

Very simple! Just plug in the cables and go. No further configuration is required. No drivers, software, etc. are needed.

Ah, well if the drive is a SATA drive and the motherboard takes only PATA connections, then you'll need a different adapter which does the reverse of the one you have. Like this one here.

The controller displayed above is for adding an IDE PATA drive to a machine that only supports SATA.

I'm just curious if the conversion your attempting ezooone is converting an IDE machine to SATA.

If so you'd need a PCI to SATA host controller. I've been researching this myself because my motherboard does not have the newer SATA communications ports.

You can find these at newegg.com at this link.

Please take notice. Oreo and I will not be available until June of 2012.
Thank you for understanding my absence, it is job and college related, so all is good. If I do not answer your PMs this is the reason why. See you all soon!

That motherboard does not have SATA connectors. You can either get a PCI card like MrBruce suggests or an adaptor like I suggested earlier. There's no real advantage between the two options.

Your motherboard was manufactured by a company called pcchips. You can find a manual for the motherboard and drivers from this Tiwan website.
http://www.pcchips.com.tw

(EDIT): I found this website for pcchips USA http://pcchipsusa.com/index.asp

I tried to locate the manual for you but first I needed to know what type of processor the board supports.
However being that the board appears to be manufactured in the 2000---2002 era, it probably only has Floppy-IDE- PCI-ISA and AGP exspansion slots.
