Startup takes ages before getting to desktop. Displays Windows ME splash screen.

How do I check the BIOS? I'm unfamiliar with that sort of thing. Step by step, perhaps?.
I'll try out that program in a few seconds. (:

I misspoke about the ME splash screen. I was thinking of a Compaq or HP computer and their splash screens. Can you give me more info on the computer?

To get into the Bios you start (or restart) the computer and start pressing F8 as soon as the screen lights up until you see the Bios page. You will know when it comes up. To exit the Bios just press esc until you are at the main screen and then use the arrow keys to choose Exit without Saving Changes.

If you can give me the motherboard name from the Everest report I can probably give you more complete instructions on what to look for in there.
