Can I ask a question...?
When you installed your new motherboard, did you run the install CD that came with it or did you not have an install CD?
The reason being:
Motherboards have specific sets of software that come with them called "chipset drivers" and they control how your motherboard interacts with everything connected to it. If you did not install the chipset drivers for your motherboard, you will get all kinds of strange results regardless of what hardware you install.
Also, what operating system do you use now and is your system 32- or 64-bit?

Yes the motherboard included the drivers cd, they were all installed successfully.
I am using Windows XP, the motherboard says it supports 32 and 64bit..?

Ok, here's a good setup:
PSU: Corsair CX400 ~ $54.99 ($39.99 after MIR)
GFX CARD: Geforce 9600GT ~ In & Around $100
Make sure you get a card that can fit in your case, keeping the space constraints in mind.
