Time to get to the basics.

Are the speakers plugged in to the correct port on the soundcard?
If the speakers need to be connected to a power outlet, is the cord firmly plugged in?
Are the speakers turned on and the volume turned up?

Yes everything is plugged into the correct ports and the speakers are plugged in to the wall. it is the second set of speakers that I tried, the other pair I used wasnt powered. and the speakers that I have connected worked on another computer.

The only other thing I can think of: your sound card died and needs to be replaced.

Is there a way you can take the card from your daughters computer and install it in another computer to see if it works?
You would have to install the drivers in order to find out.

Yep, the built in sound should work, if the drivers are installed.
If it were me, I'd try that before buying a new card.

My apologies to you for not thinking about using the on board sound. This topic is about sound cards, so that's what I was focusing on.

This may be a stupid question but is it possible that there might be software conflickting with one another. (grasping at straws here). P.S. I am downloading the software for the pc and will try and install them and see what happens also. and I will look and see if there are any jumpers not set properly on the motherboard.

Regarding the soundcard: it worked before all this happened? I'm assuming it did, so while there could possibly be a conflict between the sound card and the on board sound, it's not likely since everything was working.

Before you install any drivers for the on board sound, plug the speakers into the ports for on board. If there are music files on the computer, open up a media player, play one of the files, and see if the sound works.

Hi. I tried the audio plugs for the motherboard and they dont seem to work either. I rebooted in safe mode and tried to get it to work that way but an error came up, that there was no audio card and could not play the file.

It sounds as if the drivers for the on board audio need to be installed.
You have 2 choices-find the drivers for the device, download them, and install.

OR you can check with Microsoft update. The drivers may show up there. If they do, install them.
Go to Microsoft update. Choose CUSTOM, let it scan. After the scan completes, it would be listed under Hardware if it's available from Microsoft.

If you don't get it from Updates, and you need help finding the drivers please post the name of the on board sound device.

Well its fixed. I took out the board and downloaded the software for the motherboard and installed it.after that everything worked, the drivers or the audio card must have been bad and were conflicting with the computer. now all the programs work and the computer is behaving properly. Daughter is happy again. :flowers: for now. Thanks to all for the help.

I'm glad you got it working. And I bet your daughter is happier about it than you and I are.

I still suspect the card may have died, but the only way to find out would be to install it and the drivers in another computer.
