I am looking to upgrade the ram in a Sony Vaio PCG-792L. On the underneath of the laptop, there is a cover specially for the ram. There are currently 2 slots filled with 504 mb ram total (well thats what it says when I look under computer properties.)

I looked on a few sites but I'm not quite sure if i can upgrade to 1 GB in each slot or I need to go to 512 mb in each slot. The computer is not listed on www.crucial.com
I did find some sites that said 1 GB max and the other said 2GB max, any ideas? And when I looked under the manufacturers page they were trying to charge me $55/ea for a 512mb... <ridiculous>.

It bothers me that I cannot find any listing for that model on Sony's site
Are there any other numbers on the stickers on the bottom of the laptop?

well it is a refurfished laptop, so it has all of those numbers.... looks like the person that refurbished it took everything else off of it though

Thanks for confirming that G.

Went to look it up myself the other day and could not find it either.

Well that answers my next question about want country it was purchased in

Using Crucial's site, let them scan it and see what they recommend
It's guaranteed and if they're wrong, the'll take it back

For starters, it is a Sony VGN-FS550 (PCG-792L)

Memory :

512MB PC-2700 333MHz DDR (256MB X 2)
(Expandable up to 1GB)

What you need:

512MB X 2 = 1GB

Options:

Kingston 512MB PC2700
Corsair 512MB PC2700

Good luck!
