Walmart, Radio Shack, Best Buy, ...... but don't pay more than $3.99-+. You can buy lots of 5 and 10 on ebay.
How many did they send you. My father in law had 4 come in his kit.

You only need one on the outlet that has a device on it. Telephone, answering machine, computer modem, fax machine,...you have the idea. No device no need for a filter. Your DSL modem also need to be on a filter. You may have signal but without the filters it maybe degraded beyond use.

since when does a dsl modem need to be on a filter? the filter "filters" out "internet noise". ifyou didnt have a filter on, when you picked up the phone, it would sound l;ike a fax machine.

best call your isp on that one, i hook up dsl accounts EVERY day, i have never put a modem on a filtered line. but acklan seems to think so, so call isp first. i dont mean to discredit anyone, so dont get the wrong idea, i just dont want anybody misinformed. sorry if anybody took offense.

This is the filter available around here. If the teleco installs it they run a seperate line and put the DSL on a seperate leg in the box.

Filter

As you can see in the picture there is a port for telephone and the DSL modem. KISNA is this similar to the filter you have?

I actually found a filter that says "DSL filter". Imagin that.

If you would be so kind to elaborate on the fax machine noise. I have installed many DSL modems, and I may have been lucky, but I have never received a fax machine sound over the telephone. I have had the DSL not work because I left a filter off of a telephone, but never a telephone problem.

Micro filters separate the Internet signal from the phone/fax signal, allowing you to access the Internet and use the telephone on the same line at the same time. You will need to install a micro filter on every telephone jack that has a phone or other device plugged into it, except the phone jack that the modem plugs into.

High-Speed Internet service only runs on one phone (a single phone number), so you only need to install micro filters for telephones or other devices that share the same line as your High Speed Internet service. Jacks without telephones do not require micro filters.

your dsl filter wall mount, is to filter out internet "noise", from the telephone service. they are not terminators.

sorry for any confusion

Yup all 4 filters in the kit look exactly like that picture you posted acklan. So if I use this filter downstairs in the kitchen (and my router and PC is upstairs), DSL/HPNA port remains open and I only use Phone port on that filter, right ?

More questions.

I just got done installing D-Link PCI ethernet adapter in my desktop. I found out that my desktop came with 3Com ethernet adapter installed few years back. I, since had re-installed 98Se OS so it may have wiped out the driver and I now can't find the driver. I elected to leave 3Com adapter in it's place. So I now have 2 ethernet adapters. If I downloaded a driver for 3Com from their website, will the 2 ethernet adapters conflict with each other ? If they don't, I can place my DSL cable in either one and use the one that gives me fastest connection ?

Can't wait till my DSL service is turned on in a couple of days.

I would plug in even the DSL in, since it has a port labeled DSL on the filter I would thing the telco would want you to.

As far as the two NIC I would only use one, but it can be configured to use two. The 3Com NIC may be a 3C905B-tx. Try that driver an see.

Have you connected your modem/router to your computers so you can atleast get you LAN up. That way you will have you computers tied together.

Thought I'd do it all when service it turned on. That way when I pop the CD in, it will walk me through and I'll be connected, all in one step.

I don't think you understood my question. Downstairs (away from where my DSL modem is which is upstairs) I don't have a DSL cable to plug into DSL port of the filter. Or in my master BR or guest BR where other phones are. So what do I do with those open ports on each filter ?

If I have this straight you are wondering what to plug into the DSL side of the filter in rooms that don't have the DSL modem. You don't have to plug anything into it. The filter was designed to accept either or both. You don't have to use both. This is one of those items that serves two functions. In the kitchen where you only have a telephone, that is all you plug in. In the bedroom all you have is a telephone? You only need to plug in the telephone. Upstairs where the DSL is if you have both the DSL and a telephone connect each into it's indicated port. If you only have DSL then leave the telephone port empty or plug your dialup modem in.
