Hi,
I'm having the same problem like one of the users here (No sound on Firefox...with streaming video), audio isn't working on any stream video player I play. My audio registry is missing after I got my computer clean and updated from infection with help from the HJT team. Not only does the audio not work on flash players, I can't play mp3s on WMP because of missing codec, and yes I have already downloaded and installed the codec that was missing. Music works on my other MP though, but WMP is what I like to use most. My video encoding programs doesn't work properly either because of missing audio codecs. Even if I had dl and installed k-lite pack the problem is still there. I figure with all this problems I'm having, I'm sure it's because of the malware I had, it did some damage. I tried most of the things you guys put out with that user except for the last part. I even had my cousin who knows how to work with computers to try fix it but even he can't find fix it. I'm sure the missing audio in registry is the cause of most of the things not working properly.

I'm wondering if my computer is screwed? What should I do?

Do you have any errors in Device Manager?
Did you try to reinstall sound driver?

Don't worry about it. That's why, we're here to help you out

I re-read your original post and you have SOME sound, so we'll have to check couple things.

Go Start>Run, type in:
devmgmt.msc
Click OK

Device Manager will open.
See, if you have any yellow "?", or "!" marks.

Then, open Internet Explorer and see, if the sound is missing in IE, as well.

No, no, I'm talking about brand and model, like Dell, HP, Compaq, etc....
It looks like we need to reinstall couple of drivers to start with.
You don't have any other issues, just sound not working?
