When I power the PC I hear 3 beeps and the fan but nothing else happens.
If turn it off and power it again it will start, but it could take several tries. While it is running everything works find, if I restart the computer with the restart button it will boot OK. But every time I do a complete shutdown I get the same condition. I ran chkdsk, defrag and ran a disk checking utility and it checked out OK. I was thinking of running an XP repair but Gateway did not supply the CD's for XP only the five recovery disk. Can I do a XP repair with these disks because all the instruction I found on your web site said to put in the XP CD's not the Gateway disk.
Do you have any other recommendations on how I can fix this problem? How can I get the XP disks?

I suggest that you...look in your owner's manual or the Gateway website...and find out what those 3 beeps are signaling when you boot.
That is not expected/normal system behavior and the beeps are trying to alert you that something needs your attention.

Those are BIOS beep codes. If you here just one you're OK
According to Gateway, 3 means bad memory
