Windows Advance Options menu

I have a small problem I'm hoping to get some advice.

When I restart my computer and hit F8 to go to the Windows Advance Options Menu, my display only shows lines of white unrecognizable characters. I can scroll up and down the dispaly but I cannot read it.

I'm trying to get into safe mode.

Don't know why your screen is gibberish, BUT safe mode is the choice at the top of the list.
