safe mode

When i try to start in safe mode by the f8 method, another box comes up asking what i want to start safe mode in. Floppy, Hard Disc and a couple of more things. What am i supposed to do next. thanks.

What you are seeing there is the boot priority. You use that when you want to boot from a disk or whatever. When you see that, use the arrow keys to select the hard drive and press enter. NOW start pressing F8 to get the windows boot menu where you can pick safe mode.

Some pcs use F8 for the boot priority (which is a hardware thing) even though windows uses F8 for the boot menu also (which is a software thing).
