Running Zone Alarm 9.1 (free version) and just got a pop-up saying it said New Network Found and listed an IP address I'm not sure of. And lists a type: Public Network Detected.
Then it gives a choice of selecting whether to keep it in the Internet Zone or Allowing it into the Trusted Zone. Then I can also Name this new network (optional). Then Okay or Cancel.
Is this something new or has someone hacked into my computer and is trying to connect to the internet some other way?
P.S. The box is still up asking for this permission and not sure whether to allow it or not. Or again, have I been hacked?

I do not know for sure you have been hacked but I would not allow it. Obviously it is not a connection you were making so deny it.
Any time you are not the one who initiated something on your computer, do not allow it to continue

It's just something I've never seen before with Zone-alarm and have been using this for quite a few years. Just cancelling it might do more harm than good.
Anybody else have this pop up with Zone-alarm?

I have not had that pop up with ZA but I am not using the latest version or the free version, but I would not allow a public network on my system

What IP is it saying it found?? Is it on your network?? It should be something like
10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255
Those are all classified as Private which mean they are used on every network and thus far can't be used on the internet. So if you see Any of those ip's then it is ok to use but if it is some ip that is not PRIVATE always deny those!!!
