Why do you need to delete it?
These files are created by different programs that are opened. There is no file association to them and it is recommended to just leave them alone for they will probably be created again the next time you reboot. |

Hi, The file is in my Cookies folder, one day i was deleting the cookies in the folder, and they were all deleted except this one. This was the first time it came up, and when it did, it had a restricted site icon at the bottom of the page......Knowing i did'nt put the icon there, i was curious as to why it was there.......When i could'nt open it to see why the icon was there,,,,I figured i would just get rid of it.......If you say it does'nt really mean that much,, i'll just leave it alone...Thanks for your reply.

Hi, Bear, I checked out the link, and there's a lot to look at so i don't delete the wrong thing. Is there any rule of thumb to go by here?

Get Ccleaner. It will remove all your index.dat files.

Hi, Leurgy, I checked that one out, and it seems to be easier to
use than the other one. Thanks, sportster. -------------------- I've come a very long way. Just to find out, I still have a long way to go.

Glad to help sportster. Because index.dat is a protected system file you need to reboot for Ccleaner to delete it but Windows replaces it when it loads with a fresh copy.
Don't use the Issues tab in Ccleaner unless you have a specific Registry problem. Its best to leave that one alone. -------------------- **** We use our powers for good, not evil **** When the only tool you own is a hammer, every problem begins to resemble a nail. Abraham Maslo |
