BleepingComputer.com: How to protect against the Google redirect virus?

On reading the net and several Forum`s including this one, Redirect virus`s appear to be a big problem, especially the Google Redirect virus - this virus seems to be causing an enormous amount of trouble to many users.

The solutions I have read vary from complex procedures, many of which are probably beyond the scope of the average user, to simply killing it with a good AM program like MBAM or A-Squared AM, including the free versions.

A stupid question most likely ? But, if we are using Sandboxie then how can this virus possibly get out of the sandbox to infect our system ? All contents of the sandbox are deleted on browser shut-down, presumably including the virus.
